Photobiomodulation (PBM), or low-level light therapy, is a new treatment option with different, promising medical applications. For instance, Product Creation Studio (PCS) recently worked on two PBM projects: the LumiThera LT-300, which treats patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and has recently been approved for clinical trials in Canada, and the Biolux OrthoPulse, which reduces the amount of time that people need to wear braces in half.

Benesol is another company that is seeking to use PBM to end vitamin D deficiency and its associated health problems. They recently released a report that shows both the benefits of receiving vitamin D and also the negative impacts that a vitamin D deficiency can have.

Some of the many studies included in their report are: a study by Fred Hutch News that says that high vitamin D levels are linked to a lower risk of breast cancer, a report by Yahoo News that says that vitamin D supplements are beneficial for breastfed children, and a Huffington Post report that says that low vitamin D is associated with sleep problems. These reports further support the need to innovate in the PBM space and fuel our desire to enable these technological advancements.

We are interested to learn about the many benefits of vitamin D and are excited to see how low-level light therapy can help improve vitamin D levels. PCS looks forward to supporting more of these innovative treatments.
